A. Directions: Compare animal cell from plant cell in terms of the following:

Answer:

Shape.

Animal cells are mostly round and irregular in shape while plant cells have fixed, rectangular shapes. Plant and animal cells are both eukaryotic cells, so they have several features in common, such as the presence of a cell membrane, and cell organelles, like the nucleus, mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum.

Storage Material

A plant cell contains a large, singular vacuole that is used for storage of water and nutrients. It also helps maintain the shape of the cell. In contrast, animal cells have many, smaller vacuoles, which also are used for storage of water and nutrients.

Presence of chlorophyll

Plant cells have a cell wall, chloroplasts and other specialized plastids, and a large central vacuole, which are not found within animal cells. The chloroplasts, found in plant cells, contain a green pigment called chlorophyll, which captures the light energy that drives the reactions of plant photosynthesis.

Size of Vacuole

Animal cells have one or more small vacuoles whereas plant cells have one large central vacuole that can take upto 90% of cell volume. In plant cells, the function of vacuoles is to store water and maintain turgidity of the cell. Vacuoles in animal cells store water, ions and waste.
